Cards From Christ

  • Google Calendar ICS

Stonybrook: This is your chance to participate in our Prison Ministry program! In the past couple of years, you have donated extra Christmas cards (the unsolicited ones you receive in the mail or the leftovers you have from previous years). These cards have been signed (first name only) and sent off to Cards From Christ, the ministry that collects these cards for prisoners who often get nothing at Christmas from families or friends. As each incarcerated individual in the Ohio prison system receives a card, they realize that they have not been forgotten and are cared about during this holiday season.

Last year we collected and signed 1916 cards!!!!! Isn’t that amazing?! We don’t need envelopes, only cards. If you want to help by signing, just remember to use black pen and no last names. We will collect cards, signed or unsigned, in the box located on the counter outside the sanctuary. We would like to collect cards before November 9 so we can get them signed, counted, and transported to Marysville.

Thank you for helping us with this simple way of sharing God’s love during the holiday season with people who are often forgotten and are very grateful for a card. If you have any questions, contact the church office.

Blue Christmas Worship Service The holiday season can be a time of joy—but for many, it also brings feelings of grief, loss, and loneliness. Whether you're carrying memories of past experiences or facing present challenges, Christmas may feel especially heavy. Our Blue Christmas Worship Service, held on the longest night of the year, offers a quiet, contemplative space to honor those emotions. Through prayer, music, and reflection, we seek healing, hope, and comfort—reminding one another that we are not alone. All are welcome to join us in the Chapel off the Narthex on Sunday, December 21 at 7:00 PM.

Stonybrook Monthly Movie:  What if you had the chance to re-do a mistake in your life?  Would you try it?  What if you are a 59 year-old grandfather who couldn't play in the final game of the football season his senior year and then finds out he is still eligible to enroll in the college and be on the team?  Our movie this month is based on this true story.  The movie is "The Senior" and it's a feel-good underdog sports movie that has received surprisingly positive reviews.  The movie is currently at Stoneridge Cinemark and we will watch the first show on Monday, Oct 6.  Please check online over the weekend to find the show time.  After the movie we'll find a local spot for lunch and conversation.  Be sure to bring some Bengay because you might throw an arm out cheering for this guy.  Feel free to invite friends.  Questions?  Contact Coach Bill (wbartter@att.net) or call the church office at 614.471.0252

Monthly Movie

Stonybrook monthly movie:  This month we are entering our time machines and exploring a super hero from the past - Superman.  A new movie has been made about "the man of steel," with "truth, justice, and the American way," along with Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, Ma and Pa Kent, and even a dog.  However, this Superman is now set in the current day with social media and influencers.  The movie is "Superman" and it was filmed in Cleveland and Cincinnati. We will watch the first showing on Monday, September 8, at Stoneridge Cinemark.  Please check online for showtimes.  Following the movie, we will walk to a local spot for lunch and conversation.  If you are new to the Stonybrook community, this is a great way to meet others.  If you have questions, contact Bill Bartter wbartter@att.net

New Member Class

In this class, we will explore what it means to be a United Methodist and what it means to be a member of Stonybrook Church. Attending the class does not commit you to joining Stonybrook; it is simply an opportunity to learn more about the church, meet new people, and consider whether membership is the right next step for you. This is a one-day class scheduled for Sunday, September 7, from 12:30–2:30 pm. A light lunch will be provided, and childcare is available. If you decide to join Stonybrook Church, you will be commissioned during one of the worship services on September 14. You can sign up on the back of the connection card or by clicking here.
