Special Church/Charge Conference

On August 20, 2026, at 6:30 pm, Rev. Hoffman will convene a special called Church Conference to consider the candidacy of member Joe Brookins.  In the United Methodist Church, when a certified candidate for ministry is presented to the Church Conference, the congregation has the responsibility to discern and affirm the candidate's gifts, character, call to ministry, and evidence of fruitful service.  The vote is not merely procedural but reflects the church's role in recognizing and supporting God's call. All members are eligible and encouraged to participate in this congregational vote.  By voting to recommend and support the candidate, the church conference expresses confidence in the individual's readiness to continue the candidacy process and commits to encouraging, nurturing, and praying for the candidate throughout their journey toward ordained or licensed ministry.

This is a one-day class scheduled for Sunday, August 30, from 12:30–2:30 pm. A light lunch will be provided, and childcare is available upon request. If you decide to join Stonybrook Church, you will be commissioned during one of the worship services on September 13. You can sign up on the back of the connection card or by clicking here.

Monthly Movie As our last outing before the summer break, the movie group will take a rom-com excursion to Italy with "You, Me & Tuscany."  The movie follows Anna, a down on her luck New Yorker who suffered a recent loss in her family.  She thinks a trip to Italy will revive her spirits but gets caught up in a comedy of errors that have not been seen since Shakespeare's time.  Reviews say this is a beautifully filmed lighthearted movie with small bits of salty language.  We will see the first showing of the day on Monday, May 4.  Following the movie we will have lunch and conversation at a local spot.  Please check online for showtimes.  If the movie is not being shown we will skip this month.  Questions, suggestions, contact Bill Bartter (wbartter@att.net.
