Stonybrook Church is partnering with Habitat for Humanity to build the walls of a home for a local family in need. Habitat MidOhio offers a program designed to be a hand up, not a hand out, to families in need. Through hard work, commitment, and hundreds of hours of sweat equity, Habitat MidOhio partner families are breaking the cycle of poverty through homeownership and creating a brighter future for their children. Habitat MidOhio is one of the only housing agencies in Franklin, Licking, and Madison Counties targeting first-time homebuyers who earn 30-60% of the area median income. Habitat MidOhio partner families are chosen after a careful review process during which Habitat assesses their need for housing; their ability to repay a zero-interest, no-profit mortgage; and, their willingness to partner with Habitat MidOhio. Join us as we build the walls on our campus to then be raised onsite in the Columbus area! No construction experience necessary.
All are welcome at Stonybrook as we celebrate the beauty of Autumn with tons of fall activities! We will have a 20 animal petting zoo, small train rides, pictures with Dora and Brutus, face painting, pumpkin painting, games, candy, prizes and more. Satisfy your seasonal cravings with a BBQ lunch (donations accepted), warm apple cider and popcorn. Volunteers are needed; please sign up HERE. The Habitat for Humanity walls will be on display that were built earlier in the weekend. We will offer a blessing to the partner family as we dedicate the walls that will be the framework of their future home.
Our celebration will conclude with a concert entitled "Conversations" at 3:00 pm by The Ohio State University Symphonic Band and Stonybrook Chancel Choir, Bells and instrumentalists. The ninety-minute presentation will include "One Foundation", a medley of four hymn tunes written by former Gahanna student, Zach Koors. Admission for this event is a donation to GRIN of Socks for "Socktober".
